Why is this medication prescribed?
Beclometasone belongs to the group of medicines known as corticosteroids.
Beclometasone oral inhalation can be used to treat asthma. Corticosteroids are inhaled to help prevent asthma attacks and to ease breathing problems. They work by reducing swelling and irritation in the small air passages of the lungs. This medication is available in metered dose inhaler and inhalation powder form.
On the other hand, beclometasone nasal spray is used to prevent and relieve allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the inside of the nose) commonly caused by hayfever and other allergies. Exposure to irritants such as plant pollens, pet fur or pollution can cause the body to produce a chemical called histamine. The release of histamine causes the lining of the nose to become swollen and itchy which in turn causes sneezing, and a sore and continually runny nose. It reduces inflammation and swelling and so relieves congestion, itching, sneezing, irritation and discomfort.
